Madison County residents will get a chance to meet the men and women who grow and raise their local foods Saturday during the second annual Meet Your Farmers Tour from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Growing up on this farm, Carla has had a life-long desire to see it continue as a working farm. Seeing that vision come to fruition has been a while in the making, as she pursued a nursing career. Now back on the farm with 35 years of public health nursing experience, Carla joins her family – living a life in harmony with the farm. She enjoys integrating her passion for health and wellness into the life and seasons of the farm as an agrarian nurse – a phrase she uses to describe the role of nurses who are inspired by the interconnectedness of agriculture and personal health.
She advocates that small family farms should be the agents of change for improving the health of rural Kentucky communities. She currently serves as chair of Community Farm Alliance, co-chair of the Berea Farmers Market, and is a part-time Eastern Kentucky University nursing faculty for the MSN program.
