Life bursts forth this time of year, bringing a lot of excitement on the farm…and anxiety. Sometimes, when everything greens up, I wonder if I’ll be able to keep up. But this year, I’m more worried about how slow things are coming on. It’s been a cold spring. By April of last year, we had knee-high tomato plants in the greenhouse. Now we’re waiting to harvest the 21 day radishes I planted on the Ides of March. The farm is always full of surprises.

One of the blessings of CSA is that we are in it together. I’m grateful that you will bear with us through the slow start of this season. In spite of the wet weather, we have stuck to the planting schedule we crafted in January and believe that with some nice warm weather, we will have bountiful boxes soon.

RECIPES

ARUGULA PESTO

We love pesto! As the seasons change, bringing a variety of herbs and greens, you can make just about any kind of pesto you like. Arugula is a good option,  and although spicier than basil pesto, it’s the perfect condiment to go with oven roasted smashed potatoes or pasta. Hope you enjoy! Tip: as this recipe does, you can substitute walnuts, pumpkin seeds, or hazelnuts for the more traditional pine nuts in your pesto.
