FARM NEWS
- FROM THE FARMERS
Bryce sold a few cases of produce to the Good Foods Co-op in Lexington today and is working on a couple other wholesale opportunities. Becoming certified organic has made a difference in the markets that are open to us…it’s made our goal more realistic: to have a financially viable operation that aligns with our principles.
Not that farming (or anything, for that matter) is ever easy. But compared to 18 months ago, we are living the dream. In February of 2012, we lost about 25 percent of our cattle and CSA was just a distant possibility. Today the CSA and livestock are thriving.
Yet rather than feeling grateful, sometimes I am just terrified by what could be around the corner. So I was not surprised Sunday when, over lunch at the farmhouse – roasted potatoes and squash, smoked turkey, salad and nectarines – Carla brought up soul matters. Without going into a drawn-out description of that conversation (Carla and I can really get going), suffice it to say we wonder about the quietness of heart that does not depend on how well things are going.
What does that look like in your life? If these are the kinds of things you like to share, let’s have a meal together at the farm.
